Workshop #3 – Envisioning draft Plan20-50 in our communities:

The goal of the workshops is to examine Draft Plan20-50 draft policies to better understand how regional direction can be realized by municipalities at the local level. Each workshop will focus on particular draft Plan20-50 policy areas. The participants will have group discussion and provide valuable feedback. By the end of the workshops, participants consisting of WMR board members, CAOs, councillors and planners will have a better understanding of draft Plan20-50 and what it means for their communities now and into the future.
Workshop #3 will focus on One Environment, Resource Management, and Collaborative Governance.
Bob Sandford presents on the impacts of climate change (referencing current examples) and speaks to the how we must find more effective and durable ways to collaborate to effect change at the local level move forward together.
Robert (Bob) Sandford holds the Global Water Futures Chair in Water and Climate Security at the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health. He is also senior advisor on water issues for the Interaction Council.
Sophie Hendriks Water and Sustainability Consultant from Metabolic presents on the innovative projects in the Netherlands and how their integrated water approach works with nature to avoid flood risk and challenges posed by climate change. She speaks to examples like the Delta Approach, ties to the Circular Economy, the potential “Manitoba Approach”, how Plan20-50 supports water management and why it is important to manage this valuable resource at a regional level.
